The Red Lake Warriors on the road again on Tuesday and play against the Kelliher/Northome Mustangs at 7:15 p.m. on January 23rd. Red Lake will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Minnesota Rankings (they are ranked 351st, while Kelliher/Northome is ranked 84th).
Red Lake suffered their biggest loss since December 5, 2023 on Tuesday. They were beaten by Deer River 83-50.
Despite their loss, Red Lake saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Lilia Pemberton, who scored 19 points along with three steals, was perhaps the best of all. That was a full 38% of Red Lake's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ce?angela Pemberton, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, even though Cass Lake-Bena scored an imposing 63 points on Friday, Kelliher/Northome still came out on top. Kelliher/Northome took their match against Cass Lake-Bena 73-63.
Red Lake has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Kelliher/Northome, their victory was their 12th straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-2.
Red Lake was taken down by Kelliher/Northome 85-32 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Kelliher/Northome's Kate Thayer, who dropped a triple-double on 34 points, ten rebounds, and ten steals. Now that Red Lake knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
