Even though the Weeki Wachee Hornets scored an imposing 60 points on Saturday, the Central Bears still came out on top. Central took down Weeki Wachee 79-60. Given Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while Weeki Wachee is ranked 572nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jeroen "jd" Watson, who scored 23 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. Watson is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tykel Williams, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Despite the defeat, Weeki Wachee had strong showings from Donnie Becude, who scored 16 points, and Jean Garcia, who scored 21 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Becude scored 15 or more points. Isaac Priester was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Central has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. As for Weeki Wachee, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central will take on Gulf at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Weeki Wachee, they will head out on the road to square off against Pasco at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Pasco comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
