On Tuesday, the Basha Bears faced the Mesquite Wildcats in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Basha was dealt a 67-37 loss at the hands of Mesquite. Basha was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-21.
Basha's loss came despite strong showings from Grace Beckler and Rylie Sword. Beckler scored 5 points along with 5 rebounds, while Sword scored 8 points.
Basha struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Mesquite pulled down 17.
Leading Mesquite to victory were Navae Guidry and Lucy Fisher. Guidry scored 21 points along with 4 steals, while Fisher dropped a double-double on 17 points and 16 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Fisher has scored at least 25% of Mesquite's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Vanessa Sepulveda, who scored 12 points along with 4 steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Basha and nudges their season record down to 4-2. As for Mesquite, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Basha will take on Mountain Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mountain Ridge is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for Mesquite, they will play host again and welcome Flagstaff, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Flagstaff will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 34th, while Mesquite is ranked first).
