The Hanna Golden Eagles won the last time they faced the San Benito Greyhounds, and things went their way on Friday too. Hanna simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat San Benito 65-37 at home. Given Hanna's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 495th, while San Benito is ranked 1166th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hanna's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Beto Galarza led the charge by scoring 24 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Galarza has scored at least a third of Hanna's points. Another player making a difference was Jordan Matamoros, who scored 16 points along with five assists and three steals.
Hanna has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 24-12 record this season. As for San Benito, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-18.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hanna will face off against Harlingen at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hanna has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 197 points over their last three games. As for San Benito, they will head out on the road to face off against Rivera at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rivera is on a four-game streak of home losses, San Benito a five-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
