The Richland Rams will head out on the road to square off against the Bedford Bisons at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Richland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
While Richland's victory against Bishop McCort wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rams skirted past the Crushers 5-3. The win continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Crushers: they've now won six in a row.
Carissa Weld spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits.
At the plate, Sophie Burke was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Elle Ladika was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Bedford waltzed into their matchup on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Bearcats. Considering the Bisons have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Emma Byers made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). Byers was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lara Bulger, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Leah Nee, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Bedford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .387 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Bedford's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Richland, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Richland hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Bedford struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Richland might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Bedford in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
