Baseball Recap: Round Valley Beats St. Johns for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Round Valley barely beat St. Johns the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Elks blew past the Redskins 10-4 on Friday. Considering the Elks have won ten matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Brenton Walker was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Walker was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Jeffery Cochran was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was JJ Logan, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Round Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Johns only posted an OBP of .394.

The victory (which was Round Valley's fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for St. Johns, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-12-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Round Valley will face off against Northland Prep Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Elks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 9.3 runs per game this season. As for St. Johns, they will challenge Greyhills Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.21 runs per game on average), something the Redskins will no doubt try to take advantage of.
