Even though the Morenci Wildcats have not done well against the Bisbee Pumas recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Morenci took down Bisbee 51-33. The win made it back-to-back wins for Morenci.
Elena Leonard was the offensive standout of the matchup as she scored 28 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tiara Jones, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and two steals.
Bisbee's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Yaslin Hernandez, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Lopez, who scored 12 points.
Morenci's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-8. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.3 points per game. As for Bisbee, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Morenci will challenge Pima at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
