The Apollo Ridge Vikings will head out to take on the Brentwood Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Apollo Ridge has seven straight wins, Brentwood has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Wednesday, Apollo Ridge made easy work of Northgate and carried off a 14-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won six matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.
Jocelyn Snyder was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Madison Butler was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most triples she has posted since back in April of 2024. Olivia Saxion also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Brentwood came up short against Shady Side Academy on Wednesday and fell 15-11.
Like Apollo Ridge, Brentwood also got a great game from a two-way player: Emma Thompson. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and 14 unearned) runs off 14 hits (and only one walk). Thompson was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Carma Coberly was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. Paige Boehm was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one triple.
Apollo Ridge pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Brentwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Apollo Ridge took their win against Brentwood when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 22-6 score. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
