The Chaparral Cowboys will head out on the road to challenge the Cimarron-Memorial Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Chaparral focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Wednesday.
Chaparral suffered their biggest defeat since November 30, 2023 on Wednesday. They took a serious blow against Legacy, falling 63-34. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Chaparral in their matchups with Legacy: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the defeat, Chaparral had strong showings from Qualib Ghallab, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds, and Elijah Bard, who scored six points along with seven rebounds. Ghallab is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season.
Meanwhile, Cimarron-Memorial didn't have too much trouble with Cheyenne on the road on Monday as they won 66-52. Given Cimarron-Memorial's advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while Cheyenne is ranked 80th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Chaparral has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for Cimarron-Memorial, their win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-7.
Chaparral was dealt a bruising 79-43 defeat at the hands of Cimarron-Memorial in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can Chaparral avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
