The Challenger Firebirds suffered their biggest defeat since November 14, 2023 on Tuesday. They were beaten by Christian Family Academy 64-36. While losing is never fun, Challenger can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 623rd, while Christian Family Academy is ranked 238th).
When it comes to explaining why Challenger lost, one person who can't be blamed is Riley Annis. Despite the final result, he scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Braelon Roe, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and five assists.
This is the second loss in a row for Challenger and nudges their season record down to 3-9. As for Christian Family Academy, they pushed their record up to 9-1 with that victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Challenger will face off against Long Shoals Wesleyan Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Long Shoals Wesleyan Academy is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Christian Family Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Haywood Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
