Softball Recap: Beardstown Wins Going Away Against Bushnell-Prairie City

Beardstown won the last time they faced Bushnell-Prairie City and things went their way on Thursday too. The Tigers were the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over the Spartans. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.

Shelby Goodrich made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Ava Quigley and Kylynn Maltby did most of the damage at the plate: Quigley went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI, while Maltby went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that Maltby has hit this season. Autumn Bowman was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Beardstown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bushnell-Prairie City only posted an OBP of .125.

The victory made it two in a row for Beardstown and bumps their season record up to 17-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Bushnell-Prairie City, they are on a 40-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-23.

Beardstown and Bushnell-Prairie City could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Tigers (ranked 204th) will meet Quincy Notre Dame (ranked 61st) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Bushnell-Prairie City will take on Farmington at 1:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (586 vs. 251).
