Softball Recap: Cedar Valley Has No Trouble Against Corner Canyon

The Cedar Valley Aviators got the win against the Corner Canyon Chargers on Monday by a conclusive 18-7. The result was nothing new for the Aviators, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

Makaylee Barnes made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Danica Everts was incredible, going 4-for-5 with six RBI, two stolen bases, and two runs. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Ellie Leatham was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Cedar Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Corner Canyon only posted a batting average of .263.

Cedar Valley has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. Corner Canyon's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cedar Valley will take on Lone Peak at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cedar Valley is facing Lone Peak at the right time seeing as Lone Peak is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Corner Canyon, they will face off against Bingham at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bingham's pitching crew has only allowed 1.9 runs per game this season, so Corner Canyon's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
