The Conway Springs Cardinals will be playing at home against the Stanton County Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Conway Springs knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six games -- so hopefully Stanton County likes a good challenge.
Conway Springs can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They breezed by Trinity at home to the tune of 41-6. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Conway Springs had established a 22 point advantage.
Brayden Kunz continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 274 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 13.7 yards per carry. Kunz's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards. Isaac Winter was another key contributor, rushing for 96 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries.
Meanwhile, Stanton County might've scored the first points on Thursday, but it was Oakley who claimed the real prize. Stanton County's rough 34-12 defeat to Oakley might stick with them for a while. Stanton County has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Stanton County saw an underclassman step up: Arihm Gonzalez rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown.
Conway Springs' victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.0 points per game. As for Stanton County, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Conway Springs has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 356.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Stanton County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 209.9 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything came up roses for Conway Springs against Stanton County in their previous meeting back in October of 2021 as the squad secured a 65-0 win. Will Conway Springs repeat their success, or does Stanton County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
