Connersville is 9-1 against Greensburg since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Spartans will challenge the Pirates at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Connersville came out on top against Cambridge City Lincoln on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fourth inning. The Spartans were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Golden Eagles. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Golden Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Jade Green made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Bre Brock and Carmen Ruble did most of the damage at the plate: Brock went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Ruble went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Addie Phillips was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Connersville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They are 12-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Greensburg waltzed into their matchup on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They never let the Lions get on the board and left with a 6-0 win.
Connersville pushed their record up to 16-8 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Greensburg, their record is now 14-2.
Both Connersville and Greensburg just can't seem to miss. The Spartans have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Greensburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Connersville was able to grind out a solid victory over Greensburg in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 9-4. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
