Softball Recap: Poth Wins Going Away Against Luling

Poth won the last time they faced Luling and things went their way on Friday too. The Pirates put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 8-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won 15 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Reese Urbanczyk was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ava Kroll was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Brevyn Brockman, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Poth is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That somehow still isn't as good as their 19-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Luling, they moved to 10-10 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Poth will challenge rival Nixon-Smiley at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Luling is set to face off against their familiar foe Goliad at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
