Softball Recap: Atrisco Heritage Academy Now 6-1 over Last Seven Games

Atrisco Heritage Academy barely beat West Mesa the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Jaguars never let the Mustangs get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Friday. Considering the Jaguars have won eight matches by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Melanie MacIas made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Atrisco Heritage Academy let Juliana Hernandez and Aalyiah Chavez run wild. Hernandez went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Chavez went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Myriah Cordova, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Atrisco Heritage Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. They are a perfect 12-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Atrisco Heritage Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for West Mesa, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-16 record this season.

Coincidentally, Atrisco Heritage Academy and West Mesa will both be playing Rio Grande the next time they take the field. The Jaguars will host the Ravens at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Mustangs will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
