Two dominant guards in RANDY JOHNSON and Peter Moye are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Olympic Trojans will be playing at home against the South Mecklenburg Sabres at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Olympic is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.
Last Friday, Olympic was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 49-48 to Berry.
Olympic's defeat came about despite a quality game from DEANGELO HALL, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. HALL is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was RICO JACKSON, who scored ten points.
Even though South Mecklenburg has not done well against Ardrey Kell recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. South Mecklenburg sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 63-61 win over Ardrey Kell. The victory was just what South Mecklenburg needed coming off of a 68-40 loss in their prior game.
South Mecklenburg got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Moye out in front who scored 22 points along with five rebounds. Moye is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last seven games he's played. Myles Howard was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Olympic has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. As for South Mecklenburg, their victory bumped their record up to 15-2.
Friday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Olympic have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 39.6% of their threes per game. However, it's not like South Mecklenburg struggles in that department as they've nailed 46.2% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Olympic and South Mecklenburg were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but Olympic came up empty-handed after a 53-52 defeat. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Moye, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds. Now that Olympic knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
