Baseball Game Preview: Danbury Panthers vs. Brazos Cougars

Danbury has gone 9-1 against Brazos recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Panthers will venture away from home to take on the Cougars at 11:00 a.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Danbury comes in on eight and Brazos on three.

If Danbury beats Brazos with 16 runs on Saturday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Panthers put the hurt on Deweyville with a sharp 16-6 victory on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won ten contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Brazos got themselves on the board against Hitchcock on Friday, but Hitchcock never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Bulldogs.

Not much got past Carter Baros, who gave up just five hits to keep Hitchcock off the board.

On the hitting side, Luke Polasek was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Reese Cullen was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Brazos always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hitchcock only posted an OBP of .286.

Danbury's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Brazos, their win bumped their record up to 11-7.

Danbury was able to grind out a solid victory over Brazos in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 7-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
