The Spring Mountain Eagles will take on the Tonopah Muckers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are still undefeated (Spring Mountain has seven wins dating back to last season, while Tonopah has six).
On Friday, Spring Mountain took their contest with ease, bagging a 64-6 win over Non Varsity Opponent. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won four matchups by 56 points or more so far this season.
Meanwhile, Tonopah faced Pahranagat Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams last Friday. The Muckers walked away with a 26-16 victory over the Panthers. Those 26 points were actually the fewest the Muckers have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Spring Mountain better keep an eye on Dustin Otteson. He was instrumental in Tonopah's win, rushing for 275 yards and three TDs while picking up 10.2 yards per carry, and also throwing for 132 yards on only nine passes. Otteson also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up a sack and making 11 total tackles. Adelaido Salgado was another key player, picking up 75 receiving yards and one score.
Tonopah was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 301 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 269 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Tonopah's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Landen Blackburn with two sacks. He is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made six or more in each of the last four games he's played.
Spring Mountain's record is now 6-0. As for Tonopah, their record now sits at an identical 6-0.
Spring Mountain was taken down by Tonopah 34-6 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Otteson, who rushed for 235 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.0 yards per carry. Now that the Eagles know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
