ALA - Gilbert North is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Mountain Pointe: they outscored them in every quarter. The Eagles put the hurt on the Pride with a sharp 23-3 win last Friday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by 20 points or more this season.
ALA - Gilbert North got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Weston Powell out in front who rushed for 69 yards and one score, and also caught one touchdown. Another signal caller making a difference was Ben Livingston, who threw for 213 yards and a pair of TDs.
ALA - Gilbert North's run defense was locked in: Mountain Pointe could only muster 1.5 yards per carry. While two picked up at least two total tackles, Powell stood above the rest. He rushed for 69 yards and one score, and also caught one touchdown. ALA - Gilbert North hasn't allowed more than 4.5 yards per carry in three consecutive matchups.
ALA - Gilbert North didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Isaac Massey and Garrett Baker. Kutter Thorley was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making eight total tackles (1.5 for loss).
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Mountain View walked away with it. They strolled past the Colts with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 27-8. The Mountain Lions pushed the score to 24-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Colts cut but never quite recovered from.
Mountain View found their leader in sophomore Drake Davis, who rushed for 184 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 9.7 yards per carry. Davis showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 53 yards.
ALA - Gilbert North's win bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Mountain View, their victory bumped their record up to 7-4.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. ALA - Gilbert North has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 151.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mountain View struggles in that department as they've been averaging 223.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
