The Carlsbad Cavemen were the 21-7 winner over the Las Cruces Bulldawgs when they last played one another back in October of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Carlsbad was beaten by Las Cruces 43-14 on Thursday. Carlsbad was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-7.
Carlsbad's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Ulysses Mendoza, who rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown.
Carlsbad's loss was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. As for Las Cruces, the win was the fifth in a row for they, bringing their record for this year to 5-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carlsbad will take on Hobbs at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Hobbs is ranked 14th, while Carlsbad is ranked 27th). As for Las Cruces, they will head out on the road to face off against Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. Centennial is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
