The East Chapel Hill Wildcats will challenge the Apex Cougars on Friday. East Chapel Hill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
East Chapel Hill is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top against Cardinal Gibbons by a score of 7-2.
McKenna White spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Anna Grabowski was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Lauren Steiner, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, Apex never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They blew past Pine Forest 7-0. Considering the Cougars have won eight matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Pine Forest's batters probably weren't too happy with Audrey Mulaski, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 13 Ks (she gave up four walks). Those 13 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Mulaski.
On the hitting side, Libby Austin and Leah Kendall did most of the damage at the plate: Austin went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Kendall went 1-for-3 with five stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases Austin has posted since back in March. Piper Rhodes also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
East Chapel Hill pushed their record up to 10-7 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Apex, their win bumped their record up to 12-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. East Chapel Hill has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Apex struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
