Grafton is 8-2 against York since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Clippers will host the Falcons at 4:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Grafton will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Lafayette on Monday. The Clippers were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Rams. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Clippers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
The team relied heavily on Gianna Mullvihill, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Madelyn Shields also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Grafton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, York made easy work of Tabb on Friday and carried off a 15-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won nine contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Sarah Witt was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Bri Petrolia was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Leah Hunter, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
York is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Grafton, their victory bumped their record up to 7-10.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Grafton hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like York struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Grafton suffered a grim 10-2 defeat to York in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Clippers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
