Owensboro Catholic has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 673 points over their last 14 matchups.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Owensboro Catholic walked away with it. They blew past the Briar Jumpers, posting a 44-15 win at home. Considering Owensboro Catholic has won 13 contests by more than 19 points this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
It was another big night for Brady Atwell, who threw for 476 yards and five touchdowns, and also rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Atwell is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was William "Tutt" Carrico, who picked up 177 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Mayfield waltzed into Friday's game with nine straight wins but they left with ten. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Beechwood 31-28. Mayfield's win was all the more impressive since Beechwood was averaging only 14.57 points allowed on the season.
Owensboro Catholic has yet to lose a contest at home this season, leaving them with a 14-0 record. As for Mayfield, their win bumped their record up to 12-1.
Owensboro Catholic took a serious blow against Mayfield in their previous matchup back in November of 2017, falling 40-7. Can Owensboro Catholic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
