The Eastern Randolph Wildcats's 19-8 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They fell 49-41 to Chatham Charter on Friday. While losing is never fun, Eastern Randolph can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 398th, while Chatham Charter is ranked 93rd).
Despite the loss, Eastern Randolph still got an impressive performance from Kenly Whitaker, who scored 24 points along with six rebounds. Whitaker scored a full 58.5% of Eastern Randolph's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Ziera Watson, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Chatham Charter's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Meah Brooks, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. The match was Brooks' ninth in a row with at least ten points. Delana Loflin was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Eastern Randolph's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Chatham Charter, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.
Eastern Randolph will head out on the road to face off against Williams at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Williams focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Friday. Chatham Charter will be home for the holidays to greet Franklin Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Franklin Academy is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.
