There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. Among the action were the efforts of Wise's senior Quinton Williams, an offensive menace who scored six total TDs.
Can't Touch This
Wise has been an offensive powerhouse for seven straight weeks after the team lit up the scoreboard again last week. It breezed past DuVal with a final score of 42 - 13. Wise's defense outmaneuvered the DuVal offensive line and got to the QB for five sacks. Williams's performance stood out as one of the best in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between St. John's and Gonzaga, 2nd and 5th in the power rankings, respectively. St. John's earned a pretty comfortable 34 - 17 victory over Gonzaga. Gonzaga had come in flaunting an aggressive defense allowing an average of only 11 points per game, but that obviously didn't scare off St. John's.
Movin on Up
Given its edge in the MaxPreps state rankings, a win looked likely for Damascus in its matchup against Wootton. The team got that and then some. Everything went Damascus's way against Wootton as it secured a 56 - 8 victory. Damascus's margin of victory (48 points) marked the biggest win the team has had all season. The success catapulted it three spots up the power rankings, enough to make it the biggest riser of the week.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Our Lady of Good Counsel (4th in the power rankings) and DeMatha (3rd). The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games. Only one team will win this week, so we'll find out on Friday which team fails to repeat its success.
