The Fountain Central Mustangs lost against the Benton Central Bison back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Fountain Central fell 55-45 to Benton Central.
Fountain Central's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaac Gayler, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Gayler hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Harmon, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Fountain Central dropped their record down to 7-8 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Benton Central, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-8.
Fountain Central and Covington will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Covington has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Benton Central will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Rensselaer Central at 8:00 p.m. on February 8th.
