Video: Top 10 Plays of November See what had everyone talking over the past month.
A year ago, Fremont freshman Taylor McCabe and her Tiger teammates nearly qualified for the Nebraska girls state basketball tournament for the first time since 2016. But a 57-56 loss to Papillion-LaVista forced Kelly Flynn's club to wait until this winter to make a run towards a Class A girls state basketball title.
The good news for Flynn is McCabe and nearly 60-percent of Fremont's scoring returns from a year ago.
McCabe, who made 72-of-171 shots from long range last year, is Nebraska's top returning 3-point shooter after she made 42.1-percent of her shots from beyond the arc. Flynn's sharp shooter shot 50-percent or better from long range 11 times in 26 contests, including a season-best six-for-eight in an 89-38 triumph over North Platte in mid-January.
Regardless of where she was at on the floor, McCabe was tough to shut down. The 5-foot-9 sophomore sank 104-of-196 2-point field goals and swished 48-percent of her shots from the floor overall. McCabe ripped the cords 49 times in 68 tries from the free throw line as well.
The third-team Lincoln Journal Star Super-State selection averaged 18.2 points, 1.9 assists, 4.5 rebounds, 2.9 steals and blocked 0.8 shots per contest.
Lincoln East senior Charlotte Bovaird returns after making 41.5 percent of her 3-point tries last season, the second highest returning percentage from 2018-19, and Hanna Neesen of Norfolk Catholic stretched opposing defenses with a 40.8 3-point percentage. Omaha Westside's Ella Wedergren and Nevaeh Stauffer of Milford round out this week's Top 5.
Classes D1 and D2 are the only classifications missing from this week's Top 10. Brittney Veik of Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family is the top returnee from Class D1 after she made 39.4-percent of her shots from beyond the arc a year ago. Chambers/Wheeler Central's Michelle Koenig is Class D2's returning sharp shooter after she ripped the cords on 36.6-percent of her attempts from beyond the arc.
In order to be considered for this week's Top 10, a returning player had to make at least 50 3-pointers a year ago. As you browse through the Top 10, listed on the line below each player's name is that player's 3-point field goal, total field goal and free throw shooting numbers as well as her total points scored for the year.
