After a string of five wins, the Chelsea Academy Knights's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took a 46-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Oakcrest. Chelsea Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Oakcrest apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2023.
Chelsea Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cici Wingate, who scored 11 points. Another player making a difference was Miriam Pilon, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Mary Mehan was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds for Oakcrest. Mehan is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kate Newsome, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four blocks.
Chelsea Academy's defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-2. As for Oakcrest, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season.
Chelsea Academy will head out on the road to square off against Christ Chapel Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Christ Chapel Academy is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 50.9 points per game. As for Oakcrest, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Trinity Christian at 5:30 p.m. Trinity Christian presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Oakcrest in Virginia (Trinity Christian is ranked 115th, while Oakcrest is ranked 242nd).
