Trenton and Columbia are an even 4-4 against one another since February of 2017, but likely not for long. We've got a battle between Tigers coming up. The two teams were dealt some close losses in their previous games and are determined not to let this one get away.
Trenton came into this matchup off a tough nine-run loss on Saturday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Fort White by a score of 7-5 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Tigers have suffered since March 7, 2024.
Makenna Young made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Presley Akins, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Columbia scored first but ultimately less than Santa Fe in their contest on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 13-11. Even though they lost, the Tigers' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.3 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Kimber Long was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Sakiya Merriex was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
Columbia has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-6 record this season. As for Trenton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-5.
Trenton's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. Trenton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Columbia, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Trenton continue to outrun the ball?
Trenton couldn't quite get it done against Columbia when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-2. Will Trenton have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
