The Elmwood Park Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Aurora Central Catholic Chargers at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Friday, Elmwood Park took a serious blow against the Rebels, falling 72-39. Elmwood Park has struggled against the Rebels recently, as their matchup on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite their defeat, Elmwood Park saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Joshua Ruiz, who scored 14 points, was perhaps the best of all. That was a full 35.9% of Elmwood Park's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordyn Boatman, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Aurora Central Catholic had to suffer through a rough 73-41 loss at the hands of the Meteors. While losing is never fun, Aurora Central Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 428th, while the Meteors are ranked 64th).
Elmwood Park has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 12 of their last 16 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season. As for Aurora Central Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-14.
Elmwood Park came up short against the Chargers when the teams last played back in November of 2023, falling 63-58. Can Elmwood Park avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
