The Holly Springs Golden Hawks are taking a road trip to square off against the Apex Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Holly Springs will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last six times Holly Springs and Panther Creek have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Tuesday. The Golden Hawks were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Catamounts. The result was nothing new for the Golden Hawks, who have now won 13 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Kaylyn Boles and Zoe Peptis did most of the damage at the plate: Boles fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-2, while Peptis went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave Peptis a new career-high in RBI (four). Hayley Marlowe also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Holly Springs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .611. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive matches.
Apex Friendship hit Apex with a five-run third inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patriots. The Cougars have struggled against the Patriots recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Lauren McMahon was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Leah Kendall was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Holly Springs pushed their record up to 16-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Apex, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Holly Springs hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Apex struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Holly Springs' way against Apex in their previous meeting back in April, as Holly Springs made off with an 18-6 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Hawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
