The Lovejoy Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight loss. They fell 37-27 to Jonesboro. While losing is never fun, Lovejoy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 348th, while Jonesboro is ranked 140th).
Jonesboro found their leader in underclassman Brianna Mason, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds. Mason is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Janiya Hullett, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Lovejoy has fallen quite a ways from their 26-6 record last season and are now at 1-5. As for Jonesboro, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lovejoy will take on Forest Park at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Forest Park is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home. As for Jonesboro, they will head out on the road to face off against Mundy's Mill at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mundy's Mill and Jonesboro are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
