Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school basketball. The tradition continues to close out the 2024-25 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Jamarion Davis-Fleming of
Canton is the 2024-25 Mississippi MaxPreps Player of the Year. The 6-foot-9 senior center led the Tigers to a 21-10 record and second consecutive Class 5A state championship.
For the season, Davis-Fleming averaged 25 points, 13 rebounds, four blocks and four assists per game this season while being named Mr. Basketball in Class 5A for the second consecutive year.
Davis-Fleming's efforts helped Canton blow past opponents by an average margin of 19.8 points per game in four state tournament contests.
As a junior, Davis-Fleming averaged 16 points, 12 rebounds
and four blocks per game to lead Canton to a 26-4 record.
Regarded as a top 100 prospect in the Class of 2025 according by
247Sports, Davis-Fleming signed with Mississippi State over offers from Alabama, LSU, Mississippi and Wake Forest among others.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April 8. Past selections include 2023-24 All-NBA picks Devin Booker (2014), Jalen Brunson (2014, 2015), Anthony Davis (2011), Kevin Durant (2006), Anthony Edwards (2019) and Jayson Tatum (2014, 2015, 2016).
