Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only The Berkeley Stags walked away with it. They blew past Conway 44-8 at home. The win made it back-to-back wins for Berkeley.
Berkeley found their leader in underclassman Henry Rivers, who rushed for 74 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, and also threw for 174 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 passes. Tyler Umphlet made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Berkeley's victory was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), which pushed their record up to 6-5. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-10 Conway and 1-9 Wando (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 35.2% over those games). As for Conway, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.
Berkeley will square off against Summerville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Summerville is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Conway does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
