Basketball Recap: Leonardtown Piles Up the Points Against Mcdonough

A well-balanced attack led Leonardtown over McDonough in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Leonardtown Raiders blew the McDonough Rams out of the water with a 60-14 final score. The Raiders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 24 points or more this season.

Leonardtown had a senior duo take command as Gretchen Fleck went 5 of 12 on her way to 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals and Allie Robrecht went 5 for 7 en route to 10 points and eight rebounds. Fleck continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Troutman, who posted six points.

Leonardtown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Leonardtown's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for McDonough, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 2-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Leonardtown will venture away from home to challenge Huntingtown at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for McDonough, they will square off against Great Mills at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Great Mills has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
