New Milford and Pomperaug are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Green Wave will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. New Milford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11 runs per game this season.
New Milford was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against New Fairfield on Sunday. The Green Wave were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Rebels. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Green Wave considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Lydia Rocky made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Rocky was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nea Plisko, who went 2-for-4 with two triples, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Ava Kopp was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
New Milford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Panthers on Wednesday. Pomperaug came up short against Masuk, falling 12-1. Pomperaug has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
New Milford is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games. As for Pomperaug, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
New Milford was able to grind out a solid win over Pomperaug in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 7-3. Will the Green Wave repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
