Eastern is 8-1 against Georgetown since January of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Eastern Warriors will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Georgetown G-Men at 6:00 p.m. Eastern is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Thursday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Eastern beat Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington 35-29. The win was just what Eastern needed coming off of a 46-17 loss in their prior match.
Meanwhile, Georgetown came up short against Miami Valley Christian Academy on Monday and fell 43-35. Georgetown has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Emily Bertram, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Morgan Preston was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with nine rebounds and four steals.
Even though they lost, Georgetown were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Eastern's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Georgetown, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
Everything came up roses for Eastern against Georgetown in their previous meeting back in December of 2020 as the squad secured a 67-30 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Eastern since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
