After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Whitney Young, the Lane Tech Champions were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They snuck past Westinghouse with a 56-52 win. For Lane Tech, this counts as revenge for the 59-48 loss Westinghouse walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2023.
Lane Tech was led to victory by Grace Bush and Melanie Blanco. Bush scored 14 points along with eight rebounds, while Blanco scored 17 points along with three steals. Blanco is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Sophia Lamperis was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Westinghouse still got an impressive performance from Jamilah Jackson, who scored 24 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Jackson is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Nina Israel, who scored eight points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Westinghouse smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lane Tech only pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.
Lane Tech's win bumped their record up to 14-9. As for Westinghouse, their loss dropped their record down to 13-3.
Lane Tech will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Glenbrook North at 2:00 p.m. Westinghouse will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Senn at 5:00 p.m. on January 19th. Senn will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 542nd, while Westinghouse is ranked 120th).
