The Newport Harbor Sailors fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. Everything went their way against Fountain Valley on Friday as Newport Harbor made off with a 31-7 win. Given Newport Harbor's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 94th, while Fountain Valley is ranked 274th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Newport Harbor's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaden O'Neal led the charge by throwing for 300 yards and three touchdowns. Josiah Lamarque also helped out with an impressive 153 receiving yards.
Newport Harbor's win bumped their record up to 5-5. As for Fountain Valley, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.
Newport Harbor will be playing at home against Trabuco Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Trabuco Hills will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Fountain Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Brentwood School at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Brentwood School's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Fountain Valley has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
