Softball Recap: North Point Snags Fourth Victory in Last Five Games

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but North Point had no problem doing just that on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Suitland Rams a 21-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Alyssa Blaney made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aminah Ayyad, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Emily Yanick, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one triple and one RBI.

North Point always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .686. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

North Point has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Suitland, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, North Point will take on Leonardtown at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Raiders will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight. Suitland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
