Basketball Recap: Zarron Skubal's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Arickaree over Denver Waldorf

Arickaree easily dispatched Bethune on Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Arickaree Bison fell just short of the Denver Waldorf Spartans by a score of 51-48 on Saturday. The Bison were not able to make up for their loss to the Spartans from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

Arickaree's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zarron Skubal, who went 8 of 10 on his way to 16 points and five boards. The dominant performance gave Skubal a new career-high in points. Dillon Noletubby was another key player, putting up 15 points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Even though they lost, Arickaree smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

Denver Waldorf's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cayden Quinn, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine assists. Another player making a difference was Henry Lottridge, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.

Arickaree's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Denver Waldorf, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Arickaree will take on Lone Star at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Arickaree is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.6 points per game this season. Denver Waldorf has already played their next contest (against Rocky Mountain Lutheran), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
