The Parkside Eagles pushed their score all the way to 63 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Southern 69-63. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Parkside came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 16th in District of Columbia, while Southern is ranked 136th in Maryland).
Parkside's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Markeese Coles, who scored 17 points. Kasson James was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Southern's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Noah Wilt, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wilt has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jared Haskiell, who scored 15 points along with six steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Parkside and nudges their season record down to 11-7. As for Southern, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4.
Parkside will look to defend their home court on Monday against School Without Walls at 12:30 p.m. As for Southern, they will head out on the road to square off against Fort Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
