Murray and Brighton are an even 4-4 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Murray Spartans are on the road again on Friday and play against the Brighton Bengals at 5:30 p.m. on December 29th. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Wednesday, Murray was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 57-56 to Layton. While losing is never fun, Murray can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while Layton is ranked fifth).
Treyce Wilson put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 19 points along with five assists. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Beh, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Brighton came up short against Pleasant Grove on Thursday and fell 66-57. Brighton has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Brighton's defeat came about despite a quality game from Nash Matheson, who scored 29 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The contest was Matheson's tenth in a row with at least ten points. Josh Mawhinney was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 16 rebounds.
Murray's loss dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Brighton, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's contest: Murray have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 6.8 threes per game. It's a different story for Brighton, though, as they've been averaging only 6 threes per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Murray couldn't quite finish off Brighton in their previous meeting back in February and fell 59-57. Can Murray avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
