After a string of six wins, the Laguna Creek Cardinals's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They had to suffer through a rough 98-56 loss at the hands of Monterey Trail. Laguna Creek was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-24.
Several Cardinals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kj Ramey, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jalen Flenory, who scored 11 points along with six assists.
Monterey Trail got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brandon Gibson Jr out in front who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. Gibson Jr has been hot recently, having posted 19 or more points the last four times he's played. Rashawn Inglemon was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Laguna Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 16-10. As for Monterey Trail, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 16 games, which provided a nice bump to their 24-2 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Laguna Creek will take on McClatchy at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. McClatchy is coming into the game with eight straight defeats on the road, meaning Laguna Creek will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory. As for Monterey Trail, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Inderkum at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Monterey Trail is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
