The Byers Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Belleview Christian Bruins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Byers should still be feeling good after a big victory, while Belleview Christian will be looking to get back into the win column.
Last Friday, Byers got themselves on the board against Gilpin County, but Gilpin County never followed suit. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 62-0 win over the Eagles. Given Byers' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 11th, while Gilpin County is ranked 69th), the result wasn't exactly an upset.
Byers got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Aj Engle out in front who picked up 179 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Engle was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 68 yards. Another player making a difference was Chase Long, who threw for 179 yards and three touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 59-18, which was the final score in Belleview Christian's tilt against Front Range Christian on Friday. Belleview Christian was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 52-12.
Despite the loss, Belleview Christian had strong showings from Jagga Sandhu, who picked up 188 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and Collin Polson, who threw for 208 yards and two touchdowns.
Byers' win was their fourth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 5-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.0 points per game. Belleview Christian has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Byers against Belleview Christian in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 52-0 win. Will Byers repeat their success, or does Belleview Christian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
