The Falcon Falcons on the road again on Friday and play against the Coronado Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Hopefully Falcon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Wednesday.
Falcon's game was all tied up 24-24 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell to The Classical Academy 50-46.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Macey Fothergill, who scored seven points along with five steals. Fothergill is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Isabella Howard was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Coronado scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They breezed by Sand Creek on the road to the tune of 72-27. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 48-9.
Coronado can attribute much of their success to Bella Martinez, who scored 22 points along with two steals, and Dayshanay Bruner, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds and six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bruner has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Leukhardt, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds.
Falcon has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Coronado, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-9.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Falcon have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 30 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Coronado, though, as they've been averaging only 30.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Falcon strolled past Coronado in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 by a score of 34-15. The rematch might be a little tougher for Falcon since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
