The Colorado Academy Mustangs will take on the Resurrection Christian Cougars at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Colorado Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Colorado Academy is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Forge Christian, who was ranked 11th at the time (Colorado Academy was ranked 19th). The Mustangs fell just short of the Fury by a score of 5-3 on Thursday. That makes it the first time this season the Mustangs have let down their home crowd.
Jordan Reiter and Kieran Delaney stepped up to the plate in a big way. Reiter went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Delaney went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Resurrection Christian came out on top against Berthoud on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run third inning. The Cougars blew past the Spartans 9-1. Considering the Cougars have won six games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Maddox Sessions made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other pitching news, Resurrection Christian got a great performance from Graham Riggs as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Riggs has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Colton Barber, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Brayden MacAlmon was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Resurrection Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Colorado Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-3.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Colorado Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Resurrection Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .352. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Colorado Academy couldn't quite get it done against Resurrection Christian in their previous meeting back in May of 2022 as they fell 6-3. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
