The Fort Yukon Eagles are on the road again on Friday and plays the Nunamiut Amaguq at 2:00 p.m. on February 16th. Nunamiut took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Fort Yukon, who comes in off a win.
Back in January, Fort Yukon beat Holy Rosary Academy 50-39. The win was just what Fort Yukon needed coming off of a 69-17 defeat in their prior matchup.
Meanwhile, Nunamiut's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their seventh straight defeat. They took a 56-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Non Varsity Opponent. Nunamiut has not had much luck with Non Varsity Opponent recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Nunamiut saw an underclassman step up: Kevin Gordon dropped a double-double on ten points and ten steals. Gordon has been hot recently, having posted five or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Justus Mulcahy, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Fort Yukon's win bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Nunamiut, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-7.
Fort Yukon took a serious blow against Nunamiut in their previous matchup back in January of 2018, falling 69-41. Can Fort Yukon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
