The Bremen Lions will square off against the Winamac Warriors at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Winamac will be up against a hot Bremen squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. Everything went the Lions' way against Marquette Catholic on Saturday as they made off with a 9-1 victory.
Casey Ton looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.
At the plate, Bremen got a big performance out of Zack Buszkiewicz, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Preston Williams was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Winamac made sure to put some runs up on the board against North White on Thursday. The Warriors' pitcher stepped up to hand the Vikings an 11-0 shutout. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Brody Wenzler made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI.
In other batting news, Brayden Mathias was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Winamac is undefeated when Mathias posts two or more runs, but 8-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Xavier Adriano, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Bremen pushed their record up to 17-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Winamac, their record now sits at 15-11.
